Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable Details

There’s a new expansion set to get! The Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) has a new expansion set for the Scarlet and Violet (S&V) series called Shrouded Fable.

A New Scarlet and Violet Expansion Set

The Pokemon TCG Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable expansion set is going to be available starting August 2, 2024 at all participating retailers worldwide, including Pokemon Centers. The Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable set contains over 95 cards featuring Pokemon featured in the land of Kitakami, the featured location in the Teal Mask DLC of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Some of the noteworthy cards you can possibly get from the S&V Shrouded Fable expansion set include:

• Three ACE SPEC rare Trainer cards
• Five Pokemon ex and one Tera Pokemon ex
• 15 illustration rare Pokemon
• 10 ultra rare Pokemon ex, Tera Pokémon ex, and Supporter cards
• Five special illustration rare Pokemon and Supporter cards
• Five hyper rare gold etched cards

Furthermore, this set marks the Pokemon TCG debut of the mythical mochi-based Pokemon Pecharunt. It will debut in the S&V Shrouded Fable as a Darkness-type Pokemon as its original typing, which is Poison and Ghost, does not exist in the TCG format.

Alongside Pecharunt, the Loyal Three, a legendary trio comprising Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti, will also be in the Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable expansion set for the first time as ex cards.

Although the complete set of cards has not been revealed, the following Pokemon are also confirmed to be part of the S&V Shrouded Fable expansion set:

• Revavroom ex
• Kingambit, Kingdra ex, and Greninja ex with special illustrations akin to the Ukiyo-e woodblock art style of Japan
• Foil promos for Pawniard, Bisharp, Horsea, Seadra, Froakie, and Frogadier from Illustration Collection bundles

Pokemon TCG Artwork Inspired by Japan’s Famous Woodblock Artworks

One of the highlights of this expansion set is the art style for Kingambit, Kingdra ex, and Greninja ex, reminiscent of the Ukiyo-e woodblock art style of Japan.

In case you do not know, Ukiyo-e, which translates to “pictures of the floating world”, is an art style popularized in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries and are produced through the method of woodblock printing. These paintings usually depict slices of Japanese life. and some of the more famous examples include works of Katsushika Hokusai, such as the Great Wave off Kanagawa (1938).

Pokemon TCG is no stranger to depicting traditional art styles in its card artwork. One of the most recent examples of this is their collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum, which gave us the coveted Van Gogh Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat Promo which can cost anywhere from $83 to as much as $250.
